What to put on a tutor invoice
Tutors usually sell lesson packs paid up front or bill monthly for a recurring schedule. Invoice the pack before the sessions start, name the subject and level, and keep materials on their own line so the lesson rate stays clean.
Example line items for tutor work:
- 1:1 sessions (8-pack) — 8 @ $50
- Exam prep intensive — 1 @ $300
- Materials / workbook — 1 @ $35
Every complete invoice also needs your details, the client’s, a unique invoice number, dates, and clear payment terms — see the full invoice checklist, or read how to invoice a client.
Frequently asked questions
Should I take payment up front for a pack?
Yes — a lesson pack paid in advance protects your schedule and reduces no-shows. Invoice the full pack, list the number of sessions, and note your cancellation policy.
How do I bill recurring weekly lessons?
Set up a monthly invoice that covers the sessions for the period, named clearly (“Maths tutoring — June, 4 sessions”), so parents always know what they’re paying for.
