What to put on a copywriter invoice
Copywriters commonly bill per project with a deposit, or a monthly retainer for ongoing content. List each deliverable separately and bill extra revisions as their own line.
Example line items for copywriter work:
- Landing page copy — 1 @ $900
- Email sequence (5) — 1 @ $750
- Extra revision round — 1 @ $150
Every complete invoice also needs your details, the client’s, a unique invoice number, dates, and clear payment terms — see the full invoice checklist, or read how to invoice a client.
Frequently asked questions
Per word or per project?
Per project (or per deliverable) reads cleaner and protects your margin on heavy edits. Put the deliverable and price on one line each.
How do I bill a content retainer?
Invoice the retainer monthly with the period named, and invoice anything beyond the agreed scope separately.
